Denominations: 30, 60 & 90 Reis

Of this forgery I have the 30 and 90 Reis

Features common to all values:

  1. The White balls of BAND A are slightly smaller than those of the genuine stamp and the leaf pattern is somewhat irregular and of scraggy appearance .
  2. BAND B consists of parallel pairs of long black dashes separated by colons but these become progressively more irregular towards the top of the stamp
  3. Band C is composed of a band of black dashes which is four deep below the numeral but looses all regularity above
  4. BAND D consists of short black dashes four deep at the top but only two deep at the bottom
  5. The background, which in the genuine consists of diamond shapes containing alternately 9 or 16 black dots, is in this forgery composed of uniform bands of dots three deep travelling obliquely across the stamp.

Features special to individual values:

30 REIS

60 Reis - Second Forgery
  1. The left curl of the tail of the 3 is much higher than the right curl
  2. There is a long triangular patch of shading in the head of the figure three’
  3. A line drawn downwards through the centre of the white ball in the top border would pass through the centre of the white ball in the bottom border
  4. The leaf pattern at the top of the stamp is 3 3 3 1 on the left and 3 3 2 1 on the right and at the bottom 3 3 3 1 on both sides of the white ball.

90 REIS

90 Reis - Second Forgery
  1. The white ball in Band A at the top of the stamp is oval and slopes downward from left to right. The one at the bottom is circular.
  2. The leaf configuration at the top is 3 3 3 1 on the left and 3 3 2 1 on the right. At the bottom it is 3 3 3 2.5 1 on the left and 3 3 3 3 1 on the right
  3. Band B consists of parallel pairs of long black dashes alternating with pairs that are much shorter and punctuated with pairs of white colons. These however are irregular and sometimes missing particularly over the top half of the stamp
  4. Band C consists of a single row of black dashes with a white edging and resembles a badly made chain
  5. Band D is a double row of black dashes.
  6. In the centre of the stamp there is a white dot and equidistant from this and Band D a narrow white band most of which is obscured by the overlying numerals.
  7. The dotted background consists of strips three dots wide running obliquely across the stamp but these are only present on the lower portion of the stamp between Bands B and C. Over the remainder of the background there is no discernable pattern
  8. A line drawn downwards through the centre of the white ball at the top of the stamp parallel to the frame line would pass to the right of the ball at the bottom of the stamp
